faces

These are thoughtless drawings I create in continuous succession, sometimes filling a sketchbook in as few as five sittings.  Many times they consist of a single line that make up the eyes, nose and lower contour of a face.  Each has its own personality or type.  Stylistically, a family will perpetuate through the automatic drawing process, while new strains often form and fall away.  Some are truly unique.

I have done a few paintings of them.  Some portraits have them as a basis, as in the “identitades latinas” murals.  So, these guys stretch from the smallest, simplest pen drawings to 12′ tall murals.  I’ll add images of paintings when I get a few good ones taken.

Eventually, I would like to see them become the sculptures that I often see them as while I’m drwing them.  I tried to create one in clay, and found I have lots to learn about clay!
